    1. Creative Writing: Why do I need an editor? Isn't that the job of a publisher?

Publishers are inundated with truckloads of unsolicited manuscripts. The fewer excuses you can give them to reject your manuscript the greater the chances an editor will actually read the first lines...and then keep reading if you have followed the advice of a manuscript assessor. Submitting an edited manuscript gives publishers the right impression: that you are a professional and you're serious. Of course if they buy your story they will undertake a structural edit followed by a line edit, but simply put, you won't get that far if at the outset your work is full of glaring errors.

If you are self-publishing, a professional edit is a crucial last step before typesetting. Many self-published authors go on to a successful career in writing, but only if they started out with a professional approach to the business. No professional writer would dream of allowing their work out into the world without it first being edited.

2. Editing services for college and university students.

Every reputable college and university advises its students to have their essays and papers professionally edited. This is not cheating. Our editors, all of whom have have postgraduate degrees, do not do your research, nor do they write your paper. They undertake line edits for grammar, spelling, syntax and overall logic and readability. If they identify weaknesses in connective ideas, flawed or inadequate rhetorical arguments and errors in referencing (Endnote is by no means flawless, particularly if your grammar and spelling is in error when you enter the data) they will point them out.

Given the investment you are already making in the cost of your course, the cost of editing a key paper is very small. However, a professionally edited paper will NOT elevate you from 'fail' to 'pass' if your research is minimal and your argument flawed.

HINT: Rule 1: answer the question; do not rabbit on about all the other amazingly interesting things you uncovered during your research. For example, if your paper is on the best way to clean floors and you discover the finest tool is a vacuum cleaner, do not write an essay on the relative merits of vacuum cleaner engines. The question is about the best way to clean floors, which on certain types of floors may be getting down on your hands and knees and scrubbing. Save the vacuum cleaner engine for your PhD.

Rule 2: present your ideas in a structured manner with logical connections that link sentences. Use subheadings at the outset, you can always remove them if necessary prior to submission.

Rule 3: present your essay in the same way that you tell a story, with opening paragraphs orienting the reader - 'who, what, when, where, how, and why', (eg, problem driven research is 'why do I care about cleaning floors' and methodology is 'how I will undertake my research'). Then present your lines of thought or the research findings so that the lecturer/tutor understands your reasoning and the voyage of discovery you made while undertaking the research.

An edited paper can elevate your grades from a pass to a credit, distinction, even a high distinction in a single bound if your research is solid and your presentation is fundamentally sound. Our editors generally do not assess the validity of the research as they are not likely to be familiar with your area of learning. However they will pick up logical flaws and gaps in reasoning and will point these out out as an opinion.

If you are considering submitting  a paper for editing, please contact us at least 2 weeks in advance of the due date to ensure we are not backlogged. You do not need to submit then, however we will need advance notice so we can contact our editors and ensure one will be available on a particular date. Edits can sometimes be undertaken in less than 24 hours, however you also will need time to address any comments they may make in relation to content/logic.

The minimum charge is AU$69 up to 2,500 words for a simple, one-time only line edit. Please contact us for other options.
